November 2, 1932-Thayer squandered several scoring opportunities and settled for a 0-0 tie with Hinsdale. At that point, Hinsdale had not yet beaten Thayer in soccer, although this was the fifth tie in four years. Thayer won the other three games.

November 10, 1934-The first football game is played at the newly constructed Alumni Field in Keene.

December 12, 1967 - Thayer Boy's Basketball wons at Wilmington, VT, making their recored 3-0. The Tigers were coached by Tony Santos.

December 20, 1949 - The Thayer varsity girl's basketball team won at Marlboro 36-23, improving their record to 2-0. Shirley Brayman led Thayer scorers with 16 points. Peg Byrne and Wanda "Bunny" Zack scored 10 points each. The team was coached by Ken Arminio.

December 27, 1968-Merrimack beat Thayer 58-56 in the opening round of the Monadnock League Christmas Tournament at Conant. Future Thayer High School athletic director and basketball coach, Kevin O'Leary scored 16 for Merrimack.

January 3, 1951-Thayer girls win in Marlboro 46-31. After the win, Coach Ken Arminio's team's record is 5-1.

Jan 4, 1952-Coach McNamara's girls beat Charlemont, MA 32-30 in the Winchester Town Hall. Eva Thompson and Carol Caban each scored 12 points.

Jan 5, 1938-Coach McNamara's Thayer boys beat Walpole 50-23. The game featured an errant pass that knocked down the scoreboard. It was reported that the scorer, Gussie Goodell, was quite surprised. Ray “Harpo” Barden scored 17, Thurlon “Lefty” Thompson scored 12, and Steve Rogalski scored 10. Bill Groves was high scorer for Walpole with 12.

Jan 6, 1933-In Bernardston, MA, Powers Institute beat Thayer 37-36. Team manager, Wayne Grupe, reported in the Thayer Revue that the game was rough. A Powers player and Brony Noseck of Thayer were ejected from the game for talking too much to the referee.

Jan 7, 1930-Coach Ian Walker's Thayer boy's team beat Kurn Hattin 84-13. Coach was Ian Walker. In the eight other games, Thayer scored a total of 234 points for an average of 29.25ppg. The winning team in the other eight games scored 268 points, or 33.5ppg. So the 84 points is an extraordinary score for 1930.

Back to Home Page Jan 8, 1955-The Dick Janson coached Thayer boys beat Troy 73-61 in the Winchester Town Hall. Ed Flory was high scorer with 30 points, and Bo Sortwell scored 22 points.

Jan 9, 1931-Coach was Ernest Barnes varsity boys beat Powers Institute of Bernardston, MA 32-15. The Thayer Revue reports that it was a rough game. The officials called twenty-one fouls in the game. The Thayer seconds also won 27-15.

Jan 10, 1949-The Thayer girls beat Templeton High School in Baldwinsville, MA 28-15.

Jan 12, 1938-Thayer won at Templeton, MA 19-17. Ray "Harpo" Barden scored 8, Steve Rogalski scored 6. AND Jan 12, 1951-Thayer win twice at home against Hinsdale. The girls won 28-16. Carol Caban scored 8 and Edwina Payeski scored 7. Boys also won 51-22. Bob Kibbe scored 14 and Earl Nelson scored 11.

Jan 14, 1944-Thayer girls beat Powers 36-22. C. Jennings and Betty Byrne scored 18 apiece for Thayer. (What is C. Jennings' first name?)

Jan 15, 1946-Thayer girls won at home against Leland & Gray 39-38.

Jan 16, 1968-Coach Tony Santos' boys won at Whitingham, VT 59-36. The win made their record 9-0.

Jan 17, 1938-Coach Paul McNamara's Thayer boys won at Walpole 51-23. Thurlon "Lefty" Thompson scored 16 and Ray Barden scored 9.

Jan 20, 1950-Coach Ken Arminio's girls won at home against Hinsdale 40-12. Shirley Brayman scored 24 points. The boys lost to Hinsdale in double overtime 22-21. Hinsdale only needed to score one point in overtime. The game ended with a controversy about the scoring of a basket at the end of a period. The referee was Lou Misium.

Jan 23, 1931-Walpole boys beat Thayer 32-26. Team manager, Wayne Grupe reported in the Thayer Revue that it was, “a fast and well played game”. AND Jan 23, 1951-Girls tie at Leland and Gray 29-29. The rules at the time do not allow girls to play overtime. Eva Thompson scored 13 and Carol Caban scored 10.

Jan 25, 1949-The Paul McNamara coached boys beat Powers Institute 43-21 in Bernardston, MA. Francis “Fuzzy” Fosdick scored 14 points and Bob Barden scored 13.

Jan 27, 1939-Thayer won at Walpole 53-22. George Woods, starting in the place of the injured Steve Rogalski, was the high scorer for Thayer. A writer for the Thayer Revue gave credit to the “hook passing” of Robert Kelley, the “sideline shooting” of Clair “Bob” Tacy, and the rebounding of Charlie Drugg. Woods, Tacy, and Alex Rogalski were the high scorers.

Jan 28, 1938-Thayer boys won at Troy 46-16.

Jan 29, 1946-The Thayer boys won at home against the Orange JV 26-20.

Jan 30, 1951-The Thayer girls, coached by Ken Arminio, won at Northfield 41-27. Eva Thompson scored 18 and Christina “Dodo” Rau scored 12. The win gave the girls a record of 10-4-1. The girls' record in the King Philip League is 6-0.
