The Project
As most Thayer High School alumni know, the title of the project is from the last lines of the school song. It is the song
of a school that will be closing in June of 2005. I am a Thayer alum from the Class of 1983, and I loved playing baseball
and basketball. I also played one year of soccer. I am undertaking the Orange and Black Forever (OBF) project because it
is important to me to preserve the history and memories of interscholastic athletics at THS.
Objective One: Collect and compile relevant information about Thayer High School interscholastic athletics.
To accomplish this objective I am researching newspaper articles, yearbooks, Thayer Revues, scorebooks, and personal scrapbooks and photos.
I am also conducting a series of interviews with people associated with Thayer High athletics. The interviews are being recorded,
and will become an oral history collection to accompany the print material. From those various sources, I am compiling team rosters, records,
schedules, game results, statistics, biographies, and stories.
Objective Two: Publish the information that I collect and compile.
I am still uncertain of the form of the final
publication. It might be a website, a compendium, a book, or some combination of forms. If I decide to publish a book, I will
donate any profit to appropriate organizations such as the Winchester Historical Society or the Thayer High School Alumni Association.
Objective Three: Preserve the collection.
All items that people donate, or otherwise become part of the collection, will ultimately be donated to the Winchester Historical Society, who has
already agreed to be the final home for the collection.
